Robert Victor Hoare was born at Kensington in London in 1898, the son of Harry Robert Hoare, a bank secretary, and Ethel Challice Hoare of 3 Uxbridge Road, Kingston-Upon-Thames. He was christened at All Saints Church, Notting Hill on the 15th of March 1898.

He was educated at Shrewsbury House Preparatory School where he was a boarder.

He served in German East Africa and in Mesopotamia. He was killed in Mesopotamia on the 10th of May, 1917, aged 19 years.
