Information:

Arthur Hunter Berg was born at Beckenham on the 6th of February, 1894, the eldest son of William Berg, a Colonial Estates Agent, and Jane Elizabeth Berg of 3 Claremont Gardens.

He attended Shrewsbury House where he was a Captain in 1909. After Shrewsbury, he went to King's College School, Wimbledon.

He enlisted in the Royal Navy as an ordinary Seaman A/123 on the 8th of September 1914.  He was posted to the Benbow Battalion, Royal Naval Division on the 9th of February 1915 and was promoted to Able Seaman (Higher Grade) on the 6th of May.

As the Navy generally saw little conflict, he went on to fight ashore in the Nelson Battalion. He was killed in action on the 13th July, 1915, during a landing at Gallipoli - aged 21 years. Many of these such landings were bloodbaths and a great deal of our old boys on the SHS memorial are buried there.

He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial Panel 8 to 15, the Surbiton War Memorial and on the Shrewsbury House War Memorial.
